JOB SUMMARY:   Provides a wide range of quality professional nursing care functions using the Nursing Process with emphasis on direct patient care and related activities.

SCOPE:   Provides professional nursing care to the patient, receives supervision and direction from Operating Room Nursing Unit Charge Nurse and Head Nurse.  Work is performed on split shift and as required, in Operating Room Nursing Unit Nursing Unit.  Hours are as assigned and may include on call after duty hours.

PRINCIPAL CONTACTS:   Ongoing with multi-disciplinary healthcare team involved in patient care for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing plan of care; with new hire and newly assigned nursing staff for orientation and integration into the nursing unit; routinely with OR physicians for carrying out doctor’s orders, assisting with medical procedures and reporting changes in the patient’s condition; ongoing with OR Charge Nurse/Head Nurse for reporting changes in patients’ condition and progress related to plan of care; with technical and other support services within medical for direct patient care, patient flow and unit maintenance.  Routine contacts with the public through patients, families and visitors.
