4.0. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
4.1. Performs nursing administrative functions common to ICU/CCU/SCU Nursing Unit either directly or by delegation to assigned service personnel.
4.2. Contributes to the establishment of Nursing shared mission, vision, and objectives ensuring appropriate and timely communication to the staff under supervision.
4.3. Solves problems relating to nursing care documenting it accordingly including in the running commentary, if it is involving nursing staff.
4.4. Develops and maintains professional quality standards and makes recommendations for improvement of such standards.
4.5. Recommends educational activities for nursing staff in ICU/CCU/SCU Nursing Unit.
4.6. Supports hospital-wide safety plans by strictly enforcing rules and regulations concerning safety practices and disaster plans.
4.7. Communicates with subordinates, other healthcare team members, and clients in professional manner.
4.8. Conducts unit orientation for newly hired nurses received in the unit.
4.9. Evaluates assigned staff without bias at least annually and periodically as required.
4.10. Requests supplies and other required resources ensuring appropriate and efficient utilization avoiding wastage.
4.11. Keeps informed of current developments in the field of ICU/CCU/SCU Nursing services and keeps the staff up-to-date of procedures through group discussions, lectures, and in-service training.
4.12. Collaborates with other departmental personnel in planning programs integrating the curative and preventive aspects of total patient care. Is responsible for the operation of approved curative-preventive programs as they relate to ICU/CCU/SCU Nursing Unit.
4.13. Determines requirements and actions to assure availability of special equipment, drugs and supplies per the approval of Nursing Director and ICU/CCU/SCU Department Chief.
4.14. Plans and maintains master work schedules necessary for required performance of all nurses and support services staff assigned in ICU/CCU/SCU Nursing Unit including leaves of absence, vacations, holiday, weekend and emergency on call schedules, and computation of off and overtime balances at the end of the month.
4.15. Works with ICU/CCU/SCU Consultants on problems affecting nursing service and practices in ICU/CCU/SCU Nursing Unit.
4.16. Directs the personnel functions of assigned staff including application of SG Hospital personnel policies in employment, wages, conduct of employees, safety, and other related activities; handling grievances; administering warning and disciplinary actions where necessary in conformance with SG Hospital’s policies.
4.17. Participates on Nursing Quality Management and other hospital-wide committee programs as designated by the Nursing Director.
4.18. Assesses the situation of ICU/CCU/SCU Nursing Unit equally distributing patient assignments to nurses according to skills and work loads.
4.19. Ensures patient safety at all times and sees to it that problems presented are attended in timely manner, properly documented, and reported to the Nursing Management according to the proper channels of communication.
4.20. Counter-checks patients’ files to ensure that doctors’ orders are carried-out properly and documentations are done by the assigned nurses and that patients are charged accordingly.
4.21. Coordinates with allied department as necessary regarding patient’s conditions and Emergency of care.
4.22. Reports to the ICU/CCU/SCU Department Head, Director of Nursing, Asst. Director of Nursing, and Nursing Supervisors all significant occurrences in the unit.
4.23. Conducts staff counseling, as necessary.
4.24. Ensures that the ICU/CCU/SCU Nursing Unit is well equipped with gadgets, machines, instruments, and materials needed in the area; being able to demonstrate to the staff on the proper operation, cleaning and disinfection of equipment.
Performs other duties as designated by the Director of Nursing.
1.0. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
1.1. Education: BSc in Nursing; few units in master’s degree of Nursing Administration is preferred.
1.2. Experience: Minimum of Seven (7) years of nursing experience plus five (5) years in head nurse or unit manager position specializing in ICU/CCU/SCU Nursing Unit or related specialty.
5.3. Knowledge/Skills: Excellent managerial, communication, and leadership skills. Expert in all aspects of nursing theories and practices. Matured individual with demonstrated competency in clinical and leadership skills.
5.4. Equipment Operated: Can operate all medical equipment in ICU/CCU/SCU Nursing Unit, computer
5.5. License: A registered nurse (RN)
5.6. Language: Fluent in English
5.7. Job Conditions: Ability to work effectively with others in a multidisciplinary setting.
5.8. Personal Requirements: Participates actively in organization’s activities without personal reservations.
5.9. Travel: Not required
